College Preparatory Course

The objective of these courses is to ensure students could pass the entrance exams conducted by national universities and/or prestigious private universities, as well as the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU) and Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT).  

In addition to Japanese, English, Mathematics and Science (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) classes are offered where necessary, so that students are better prepared for various entrance exams requirements.

Guidance on choosing a university, instructions on essay-writing and interview practices are also provided as well as guidance on filling in necessary application forms.

【Regarding College Preparatory Course】
Applicants who intend to get into Japanese universities are required to have completed twelve years of formal education. Although some could graduate high school in shorter periods (10 or 11 years) in their home countries, they are not eligible to further their tertiary education in Japan due to the local education system.
However, students who have successfully completed any Ministry-approved courses would be regarded as having completed the required twelve years and are eligible to sit for the entrance examinations held by colleges and universities.
The two courses offered at JET Academy, 1-Year University & Graduate School Preparatory Course (1 year / starting in April) and 1.5-Year University & Graduate School Preparatory Course (1.5-year / starting in October) are certified by the Ministry of Education and Science as ‘Preparatory Courses’.

Integrated Skills	Using our core textbooks, students will comprehensively develop reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills based on a strong foundation of vocabulary and grammar. Through research activities and presentations, you will also deepen your understanding of Japanese society, culture, and social systems. The curriculum is designed to progressively build practical Japanese language skills, enabling you to logically organize your thoughts and communicate them clearly.
Listening	Students will listen to classroom discussions, daily conversations, public announcements, and news broadcasts to develop step-by-step the ability to take effective notes and grasp key points.
Reading	Students will read a wide range of texts-from everyday emails and announcements to explanatory essays and newspaper articles. This allows you to develop step-by-step skills to extract key information and understand the overall structure and flow of writing.
Speaking	日Starting with role-plays modelled after daily life and school scenarios, students will build step-by-step the confidence to express their thoughts clearly with solid reasoning through discussions, presentations, and interview practices.
Writing	Starting with basic texts like notes and emails, students will progress writing opinion essays, statements of purpose, and research plans (for graduate school). You will develop step-by-step the ability to organize your thoughts and write clearly according to your specific purpose and audience.
Grammar	Using our textbooks, students will understand the meaning and usage of grammar required for society and academia. Through target practice, conversation, and writing exercises, you will develop step-by-step the ability to use grammar accurately and naturally in any given context.
Kanji	Classes are divided by proficiency level, allowing students to expand their vocabulary and learn natural collocations step by step.
Vocabulary	Starting with kanji and vocabulary essential for daily and classroom life, students will progress to abstract and specialized terms. Through reading and writing, you will master step-by-step their meanings and usages, building a strong vocabulary to communicate accurately in any context.
Exam Prep	To prepare for the JLPT and EJU, students will practice test-taking strategies, time management, and familiarize themselves with exam formats. By identifying your personal weaknesses, you will effectively boost your overall scores.
Japanese Culture	【Humanities & Social Sciences】 Students will study Japan’s economy, politics, society, and history to understand how the country operates and its role in the global community. Through reading source materials and engaging in discussions, you will significantly deepen your knowledge. 【Sciences & Engineering】 Focusing on key topics such as disaster prevention, environment, energy, and the aging population, students will learn about the current state of Japanese society. While mastering essential technical vocabulary, you will develop the ability to grasp critical concepts. 【Graduate School Prep】 Students will understand the core purpose of a research proposal, clarify their academic goals, and complete their final proposals. Through creating and presenting your research, you will explore the social systems and background supporting Japanese research, deepening your expertise in your specialized field.
Contemporary Society	Focusing primarily on the EJU “Japan and the World” exam syllabus, this course builds the foundational knowledge in social studies essential for success at universities and higher education institutions.
English	In proficiency-based classes, students will develop the English skills required for university entrance exams and higher education. We also provide comprehensive TOEFL preparation.
Mathematics	Focused on EJU “Mathematics Course 1” for humanities and “Mathematics Course 2” for sciences, this subject builds the foundational math skills required for university studies. Our dedicated, full-time faculty provide expert guidance and are always available to answer any questions.
Science Subjects	This subject builds the foundational science skills required for university studies. Students can choose two subjects from Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Our dedicated, full-time faculty provide expert guidance and are always available to answer any questions.
