■ 1. College Preparatory Course  (1 year / starting in April)

「College Preparatory Course A」

This is a one-year intensive course suitable for those who have mastered the basic grammar of Japanese and intend to enter the undergraduate or graduate course of a Japanese university at the end of the course. It offers more than 920 hours of Japanese lessons aiming at EJU* and JLPT** Level N1, as well as offering optional subjects such as English and Maths , which are sometimes mandatory for the entrance examination of a university.

Admission is made on the basis of the results of the interview test held by the school prior to the beginning of the course.

This course is suitable for those who start from the beginning and intend to enter the undergraduate or graduate course of a Japanese university in two years. The course covers the basic sentence structures and vocabulary of Japanese in the first year, then proceeds to the intermediate and advanced levels in the second year, developing the students’ capabilities so that they can follow  lectures in a Japanese university.

「Japanese Course  A / B」

This is a one year course which offers practical lessons in reading , listening, speaking and writing at the beginner’s level aiming to achieve the Japanese Language Proficiency Test Level N1 or Level  N2. It is suitable for those who intend to use their Japanese knowledge for work or to enter a vocational college in Japan.  It is possible to extend the course up to 2 years if your attendance rate is good.

●The textbooks that will be used in the Intermediate Stage include the following:「中級を学ぼう」,「文化中級日本語」,「トピックによる日本語総合演習中級前期・中級後期」,「ニュースから覚えるカタカナ語350」,「ペアで覚えるいろいろなことば」,「毎日の聞き取り50日」.  Application of basic grammar will be applied though reading comprehension practice and composition practice. In addition, raw material from the news and TV programs will be utilized.

●The textbooks that will be used in the Advanced Stage include「中級から上級への日本語」, 「トピックによる日本語総合演習上級」,「テーマ別上級で学ぶ日本語」and so forth. Raw material will be retrieved from the news, TV programs, novels and essays etc, and not only will there be a focus on the Japanese Language, basic knowledge required by the universities will also be endeavored. Furthermore,  various exam questions will be used to prepare for all measures of the examinations. In the case of university entrance exams, thorough writing practice of the heavily weighted essay and mini-essays which will be conducted. Furthermore, in terms of those who wish to proceed to a Master Course, individual assistance will be provided to aid the student in writing the very important Research Plan.

●The College Preparation course helps you to be accepted into a university by preparing you well enough in order to obtain a high score for the EJU and JLPT exam.

           

●The “Japanese Culture” and “Social Studies” class are conducted towards the “Japan and the World” subject for the EJU exam.

●English is a compulsory subject. The classes are divided into various levels, depending on the aim of the student.

●“Mathematics” (Course 1 & Course 2), “Physics”, “Chemistry”, and “Biology” are taught by a full-time teacher at JET. Therefore, students are welcomed to ask questions anytime.

●Kanji classes are conducted once a week. The concentrated-learning Kanji classes are divided in terms of the student’s reading and writing ability.

●Interview practice and essay composition writing practice will be assisted individually by class teachers and Principal ( Lecturer, Waseda University Graduate School).

●Students who plan to enter a graduate school have opportunities to present his research plan in the school twice a year.

●The school arranges meetings with former students, who have already been admitted to Japanese universities or graduate schools and will provide plenty of useful information and advice about the entrance exams of Japanese universities.

●The textbooks that will be used in the Beginners stage include「みんなの日本語Ⅰ・Ⅱ」(Second Edition), and starting from the Intermediate stage, the following textbooks will be implemented: 「中級へ行こう」,「中級を学ぼう」,「ニュースから覚えるカタカナ語350」,「ペアで覚えるいろいろなことば」and「毎日の聞き取り50日」.The works of prominent Japanese writers will also be used. There will also be an objective to look into Japanese affairs and culture, as well as discussing current problems in society.

●The classes starting from the Intermediate stage will participate in the Kanji class for one hour once a week. The concentrated-learning Kanji classes are divided in terms of the student’s reading and writing ability.

●The Japanese Affairs Class consists of various classes with different topics which the  students starting from the Intermediate stage may freely choose. There is a wide variety in the classes ranging from famous popular Japanese TV Dramas to purely Japanese-learning classes, Japanese literature, appreciations of traditional Japanese art such as the No and Kabuki, tea ceremony, exploration of famous places in Tokyo, learning Japanese through songs, as well as classes which encourages the reading of large quantities of easy books. (The day of the Japanese Affairs Class will depend on the subject which the student chooses)

●Students have many opportunities ― more than 20 times per year ― to meet with Japanese university students and enjoy conversation in Japanese.
